14 WAYS TO KICK-START YOUR FITNESS

DO something even if it's not perfect. Mood follows action - and just getting started by hook or by crook is the answer. A few press- ups, a brisk walk, or a run round the block all count. It doesn't have to be perfect to be a great start.
DO a HIIT class at home. Great for trimming up and improving cardio fitness, a classic High Intensity Interval Training format is a Tabata, which is 20 seconds of hard work followed by 10 seconds of rest for eight rounds. Do it with jumping jacks, and then, as you feel stronger, burpees or mountain climbers.
SET a goal that is audacious for you. If there is not chance of failure, it’s not a goal, it’s a check-list to be ticked off. TRY a class you have never tried before, whether indoor cycling, ballet-inspired barre, or a martial art. The big Hackney studios, such as London Fields Fitness Studio, The Refinery in Well Street, and Blok in Clapton, offer a huge variety.

BECOME a runner by using a Couch to 5k app or website, which starts you off with a mixture of running and walking. GET walking. It is underestimated as a way to improve your fitness. Walk with purpose, start with 5k and build up to 10k. As well as getting fit, you get to see things and go places you might not otherwise.

PICK a meal - breakfast, lunch or dinner - and commit to improve it every day.
MAKE overnight oats in the evening for breakfast the next day. Put rolled oats in jar, soak them in almond milk, and then build up layers with fruits, nuts, seeds and yoghurt. There are plenty of great recipe ideas online. You could start by looking at writers such as Madeleine Shaw, Joe Wicks, and Hackney's own Anna Jones.
TRY yoga. It is great for joint issues, arthritis, repetitive strain injuries, back pain, digestion, anxiety and depression, as well as flexibility and strength.
