IN WHAT turned out to be one of the most uplifting and terrible experiences of my life, last May, I took part in Action Challenge's 100km London to Brighton walk.

I lost my walking partner to heat stroke and - after getting him help - I completed the walk in 28 hours 38 minutes. The night in the East Sussex woods was crazy - and unmissable - and emerging from it at 5am serenaded by the dawn chorus was very special. After that it went down hill - and the last 20km were brutal.

So, obviously, I am doing it again next year overnight May 25/26.

I am using it as an opportunity to raise money for Young Minds, a charity committed to making sure children get the best possible mental health support and have the resilience to overcome life’s difficulties. This is the 25th anniversary year.

They operate a helpline for parents, campaign, and publish a comprehensive range of educational material
